Zak and the Skinwalker

I finally caught an episode of Zak Bagans’ show GHOST ADVENTURES. I stopped watching such “paranormal investigation” documentary shows some time ago, because they’re so tedious and so dull. People walking around in the dark asking, “Can you make a noise to let us know you’re here?” and then there is ALWAYS some noise. “What was that?!” they all ask, then wander around looking for the source of the sound. It’s always the same thing, and unless you’re actually present at one of these investigations–which I have been–it’s so damn boring. When you’re there in person, as an active participant, it’s a whole different matter. On TV, it’s a snooze. Did this particular episode of GHOST ADVENTURES, in which Zak and his team were in search of a Skinwalker in a cave, conform to this unfortunate stereotype? Yes, I’m afraid it did. And even worse, my bullshit meter was going off the whole time.

I’m not one of those hostile skeptics who is determined not to believe, thus will not believe, no matter what. I WANT to believe. I’ve experienced the paranormal myself. But everything that happened on this show seemed to be just a little too perfectly timed for dramatic tension. It felt phony.

I’m still gonna check out Bagan’s HAUNTED MUSEUM in Las Vegas, though. And I will leave my inner skeptic at home that day.
