World of Warcraft: Worgen

worgenwowConfirmed at Blizzcon 2009 was the new World of Warcraft expansion, set to come out in 2010.  If you are a die-hard WoW fan like myself you probably came close to dying due to an extreme nerdgasm when you heard about Cataclysm. I mean, the new world changing storyline,  the archeology profession, the class/race additions, oh and the awesomeness that is the two new playable races – the goblins and the worgen. The new Alliance race, the worgen, are causing quite a bit of excitement in the WoW world.

The worgen are large, wolf-like creatures that walk upright, very much like your classic werewolf. They are a cross between human and wolf and their body is covered in coarse, grayish-black fur with razor-sharp claws and fangs.

The worgen’s origins are unknown but their history and story is extensive…

The worgen’s first verified appearance in the Eastern Kingdoms has been traced back to the Third War, when the archmage Arugal utilized the wolf-beasts as a weapon against the Scourge. Arugal’s weapons soon turned against him, however, as the curse of the worgen rapidly spread among the human population, transforming ordinary men and women into ravenous, feral creatures.

Arugal adopted many of the worgen as his own and retreated to the former mansion of Baron Silverlaine, the estate now known as Shadowfang Keep. The curse, however, was not contained. It persisted in the lands of Silverpine and extended even into the fabled walled nation of Gilneas, where the curse rapidly reached pandemic levels.

The citizens of Gilneas found themselves trapped, with no hope of escape. They retreated deeper within the isolated domain, and there they survived, fearful of the savage presence that lurked just outside the barricades.

Tensions among the displaced citizens escalated over time, resulting in a civil war that now threatens to destabilize the embattled nation even more.

There are those among the Gilneans, however, who cling to hope. Many believe that a treatment for the worgen curse may exist, although others have nearly given up, fearful that if the barricades should fall, their humanity will be lost forever.

After all the time spent in Duskwood taking down an assortment of worgen it rocks that it has been switched up and we get to play as a worgen ourseves. After watching the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm trailer I can’t wait to roll a worgen. I mean, finally the Alliance has a badass looking race, I love me some pink haired gnomes and all but come on…right?

I don’t think that’s how the new faction changing thing works. I think you can change over to horde with your character but you have to change your race since only certain races can be one or the other.

    1. I think what he met was probably play a worgen untill he gets bored of it and turn back to the faction he first enjoyed or will. Seems pretty smart, Worgen seems like a cool race to be, just like Blood elfs but they have like one of the worst racial abilities, slightly better than Dreanei but i still be them. Worgens and goblins seem to have an ice and usefull racial abilitie, and they both have a really neat storyline as well

  2. When you change your faction you have to change your race to whatever races are offered in that faction. Worgen will only be for the alliance and you cant switch it over to horde. If you want to level a worgen and keep it, you wouldn’t want to do a faction change. If you did do a faction change, you would have to change your race to either orc, undead, blood elf, tauren, trolls or the newest addition in cataclysm, goblins. Sadly, I would like to be part of the horde and be a worgen, but thats just how the game goes.

  3. I as with my fellow undead brothers look forward to the Great Hunt you have presented to us……Noticed that we now become Hunters as soon as u puppies come out to play.

    1. You can kill plenty of worgen in the Lich King, but I don’t think there are any quests that allow you to be one.
