Whistler Camp in the Dark

John Logan, the creator of PENNY DREADFUL, is an extremely gifted writer (he wrote the scripts for GLADIATOR, THE AVIATOR, ALIEN: COVENANT, HUGO, etc.). Now he’s going to try his hand at directing. He’s going to be helming WHSTLER CAMP for Blumhouse. The movie is being called “a queer empowerment story set at a gay conversion camp.” Since Logan will also be writing the screenplay for the film, we know that it will at least have a terrific script, even if it turns out the guy doesn’t know what he’s doing in the director’s chair. I expect he’ll do fine.

Let’s just hope that he doesn’t get bored with the project before it’s finished and decide to just walk away from it, then tell everybody that such was his intention all along, the way he did with PENNY DREADFUL. (Yes, I am still salty over that.) I don’t think Blumhouse would be too cool with that. A Kubrick or a Spielberg might be able to get away with something like that, once, but a newbie director, not so much.

In addition to having Logan as its creative force, WHISTLER CAMP is also a Blumhouse production, so there’s every reason to expect a quality film. But I’m not gonna let the world forget the way Logan screwed over his audience that one time, either.
