Where the Wild Things Are

This isn’t something created by those wacky cryptozoologists. No, sir! This map was created by a group of legitimate scientist types at Yale University! Their goals are laudable: “At the current pace of global environmental change, there is no doubt that many species will go extinct before we have ever learned about their existence and had the chance to consider their fate…such ignorance is inexcusable, and we owe it to future generations to rapidly close these knowledge gaps.” In other words, they want to find unknown animals and document them before those animals are driven to extinction—and take actions that will prevent them from going extinct. “Finding the missing pieces of the Earth’s biodiversity puzzle is therefore crucial to improve biodiversity conservation worldwide.” It’s a worthy endeavor.

I doubt any of those brainy types ever considered that they’d be helping out the cryptozoology crowd with this, but they are. The map(s) they have created showing where on the globe unknown animals are most likely to be discovered—check them out here—will prove useful to possibly locating and classifying any and all unknown animals—and that includes the potentially more fantastical ones. Don’t expect entities like Dogmen to follow the rules of this map, though, as I am fully convinced such creatures are interdimensional and not bound by geographic location.
