Werewolves in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out today for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, which means that at long last we’ll get the answers to all of the werewolf questions we have been asking!

A while back a few screen shots of what look like werewolves were leaked and ever since then the fans have been speculating the return of werewolves to The Elder Scrolls universe. What do you think?

Here’s a look at the screenshots:

Looks like werewolves to me. Unfortunately, since the game just came out we still don’t for sure what role the werewolves play in Skyrim, or if those are even werewolves at all. But seeing how past games have had werewolves in them it’s safe to assume this one will as well. I guess someone will just have to play it and tell us (hint hint).

For those curious about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, here’s more info on the badass RPG.

“The Empire of Tamriel is on the edge. The High King of Skyrim has been murdered. Alliances form as claims to the throne are made. In the midst of this conflict, a far more dangerous, ancient evil is awakened. Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel. The future of Skyrim, even the Empire itself, hangs in the balance as they wait for the prophesized Dragonborn to come; a hero born with the power of The Voice, and the only one who can stand amongst the dragons.”

KEY FEATURES:

  • Epic Fantasy Reborn.
Skyrim reimagines the open-world fantasy epic, pushing the gameplay and technology of a virtual world to new heights.
  • Live another life, in another world.
Play any type of character you can imagine, and do whatever you want; the legendary freedom of choice, storytelling, and adventure of The Elder Scrolls is realized like never before.
  • All New Graphics and Gameplay Engine.
Skyrim’s new game engine brings to life a complete virtual world with rolling clouds, rugged mountains, bustling cities, lush fields, and ancient dungeons.
  • You Are What You Play.
Choose from hundreds of weapons, spells, and abilities. The new character system allows you to play any way you want and define yourself through your actions.
  • Dragons Return.
Battle ancient dragons like you’ve never seen. As Dragonborn, learn their secrets and harness their power for yourself.

Sounds awesome! If any of you play it make sure to let us know what the deal is with the werewolves!

  1. It’s in fact true. Werewolves can appear in the game, and you have two ways of getting lycanthropy. (SPOILER WARNING!)

    – Find Hircine’s Ring through a Daedric Quest. (No level restrictions)
    – Contract lycanthropy through a quest line for the Fighter’s Guild.

Either one lets you shift, but if you have both, you can change twice in one day. And these werewolves are incredibly fast and powerful killers.

    1. you are right about it but ehm, you cannot change with the ring of hircine whitout you did the blood ritual from the companions quest. with the ritual you can change once a day! if you equip the ring of hircine you can change at will, well if you change once and you go back human, you can change again, and again (the only stupid fact about it you need to re equip it and use the power again after you become human again!)

  2. From what I read and looking at gamefaqs you can become a werewolf still don’t know what you have to do though since the game just came out.

  3. An ad for the game shows what looks like a lupine race. That might be the werewolves you’re thinking of.

With Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon… an expansion pack for Morrowind, you could become a werewolf.

If Skyrim allows for playing this new lupine race, that will be fun. If you can do werewolves, that will be cool too.

    1. I got corrected by a couple of my friends who picked up Skyrim before I did. It’s not a Lupine Race… there is a quest to become a werewolf and a few different options on how to get it done, one being join the faction and complete all their quests.

We spent part of our Friday night get-together looking at videos of the werewolves in action in Skyrim. Quiet fun and they’re all “taunting” me over having Skyrim before I do.

  4. This just in: Be on the lookout for DLC for a quest to become a werewolf/vampire hybrid. I would think you’d have to become a werewolf first as the vampire has that pesky resist disease bonus and wouldnt allow you to contract lycanthropy.

  5. Spoiler Aletr!!!!!!!

Here’s a thought: What would happen if a vampire were to don Hircine’s ring? Hmmmm.

  6. i am a lycan on skyrim, i am pretty far in the game! and a fact is you can’t be vamp/werwolf! at the same time if you do it’s a bug! but being a vampire is stupid if you dont drink blood people will attack you on sight. if you are a werwolf only when you transform.

  7. My friend told me about this. I’m waiting for the game of the year addition for Skyrim. Until then, I’ll just watch all you fuzzy buddies running amock.

  8. Hey i have the game had it for 2 weeks now lvl 30 im a werewolf its kool for fasing big things like giants or mammoths and running long distances not much elseand ive not heard of the ring of hirsine were do i find it
