Werewolf Lovers Unite!

Mac is an avid werewolf fan; he has spent most of his life breathing, studying, and seeking out a creature that may or may not truly exist. Check out what he had to say about the lycanthropic kind.

How did you first get involved with all things werewolf?

I was one of the few kids in the early 80s with cable and HBO, so I got to see American Werewolf in London and The Howling WAY too early for a kid my age. However, unlike The Blob, they didn’t give me nightmares. I was hooked!

Do you believe that somewhere out there in the world, werewolves exist?

Sadly, no; I’m a bit of a shade-tree scientist so I can’t see a metamorphosis on that scale happening. I also don’t believe in magic so…

If you were to choose, would you want to be werewolf or have the tables turned and be the hunter?

Definitely a werewolf! When I saw Nightmare on Elm Street, (again, WAY WAY WAY too early) I had such nightmares. But one night, I dreamt that I became a werewolf and kicked Freddy’s ass. “Wildness is the preservation of the world. So seek the wolf in thyself.” -James Hetfield from “Of Wolf and Man.”

If you were the werewolf, where would you find yourself to have gotten bitten and how would you live out your life?

Hmm … the best way to survive becoming lycanthropic would be the wolfsbane method or just piss off a gypsy. I think I’d go with the bite, though; that means you get a close encounter with a werewolf, were attacked AND survived – and let’s face it, chicks dig scars. As for geographic location, I think on a boat (for the ridiculousness) or the Scottish Highlands. As for where on the body?  I’d say the shoulder; it doesn’t always show and it’s easy to expose for bragging. I’d live out my existence in the woods in Western Canada away from people … except for oil drillers.

What are some of your favorite werewolf movies?

Ginger snaps I & II, Ginger Snaps Back, Howling, American Werewolf in London, Dog Soldiers, and the Underworld series.

Also, if you get a chance, read Silver Bullet (DON’T see the movie), and The Ultimate Werewolf (short stories)!

  1. never heard of silver bullet but i’ll look into it now, but the mercedes thompson series is also really really good they are my favorite books by patricia briggs or any author

  2. With my family historical ties to withcraft I fully believe in all the things that go bump in the night. For a while it was all about vampires but the other night I had a dream I was trapped by a werewolf. He was more human than wolf was able to talk and everything. An the only way I kept him from ripping me to bits was to have sex with him. Thats the first time I had a dream about having sex with a werewolf, its always been vampires.
