Werewolf Book Attack!

There are very few new werewolf book releases lately, but fortunately, there are LOADS of fantastic werewolf books already lining bookstore shelves. Some old, some new, there’s a mountain of incredible stories available for the wolf fans. Instead of focusing so much on what’s to come, here’s a look at some older werewolf novels you may have never even known existed.

Blood Blade by Marcus Pelegrimas
Book one in the Skinners series, the werewolves may not necessarily be the stars of this book, but since it sounds badass I am adding it to the list of potentially good reads. According to the Blood Blade description, “There is a world you don’t know about, inhabited by supernatural creatures of darkness—vampires, werewolves, and all manner of savage, impossible beasts that live for terror and slaughter and blood. They are all around us but you cannot see them, for knowledge of their presence—so close and so hungry—would surely drive any ordinary human insane. But for centuries a special breed of hunter has kept the monsters at bay, preventing them from breaking through the increasingly fragile barriers protecting our mortal realm. These guardians are called skinners. But beware . . . for there are very few of them left.”

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
This is the first book in the Mercy Thompson series, which is one of the better known werewolf series out there. Mercy Thompson’s life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn’t exactly normal herself.

Wolf Moon by Charles de Lint
His name when he was human was Kern. Now he is the most feared of beings: a werewolf. When the change first came upon him, his parents drove him away with silver daggers. Later, he sought human companionship, but he could not hide the truth for long. And so he kept running until he ran headlong into the deadliest pursuer of all – a harper bent on stealing his life away. By chance Kern was able to find refuge at the Inn of the Yellow Tinker, and the woman he was destined to love. But can he risk both human and harper vengeance to keep her?

Heart Beast by Tanith Lee
Wanted for murder, Daniel Vehmund travels the world, lured by a brilliant diamond and damned by a curse that transforms him into a beast.

  1. Do you know any books that have at least one of the following?
A society based on actual wolves and not the stereotype.
Werewolves that are wolves turning into men.
Werewolves that are not predominantly white.
Werewolves where females are not the underdogs and the gender dimorphism is more like the one in wolves, not humans.

    1. Sherrilyn Kenyon is a romance author that sometimes writes about Arcadians (humans that turn into animals) and Katagaria (animals that turn into humans). Katagaria are born as animals and when they reach a certain age they are able to transform into humans. They still have animal thoughts and instincts though. And the female Katagaria wolves are just like real female wolves, everything from how they act to how they mate. You can read about Arcadians and Katagaria in Kenyon’s Dark Hunters series, there are over 20 books in it and not all of them have Arcadians or Katagaria. Plus, as I said, they are romance. Amazing books though, they definitely aren’t your typical love stories.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes is the author of The Kiesha’ra Series, which is a young adult series about nations of shapeshifters. We don’t meet the wolves until the very last book in the series, but those wolves do work like a real pack.

That’s all I can think of right now, sorry :(

  2. The only thing that is annoying me is the werewolf porn romance I can take but werewolf porn books are getting really tedious.
