As we all wait impatiently for the second season of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS to grace the airwaves, there is word from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement concerning their proposed sequel/spinoff WE’RE WOLVES, featuring the werewolves who appeared in the WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS movie. Said Waititi at a recent event: “WE’RE WOLVES is the film that Jemaine and I keep pretending that we’re making. Every couple of years we say, we’re making this new film called WE’RE WOLVES, which follows the werewolves from [WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS]. I feel bad to even mention it now because we keep saying it…it’s like a dad saying, ‘Yeah, I’ll be home for Christmas.’ It’s not like we don’t want to come home for Christmas. We would like nothing more but we have a lot of shit going on…When are you going to die? Do you have a…deadline before your death? I guarantee it before then. Five years, 10 years? It took us seven years to write the [first] film, so you do the math. That was a sad thing to say.”
Yes, it is sad. Sniffle. Who knows if the guys will ever get around to creating this movie. There is, however, reason to hope that the separate pack of werewolves that we met in an episode of the new television series might make a return appearance in the show’s second season. I sure hope so.
I wish that I could have wolves powers, but I don’t. I want to be a werewolf.
Don’t we all.
