We have a new Wolfman, and he has a Director!

It’s Leigh Whannell, the same dude who so capably brought us the recent THE INVISIBLE MAN. The movie couldn’t be in better hands, then. As for who will be portraying Larry Talbot onscreen, the most important bit of news is that it ISN’T Duane “The Rock” Johnson! The Rock has long been connected to the role by scuttlebutt, and I have just as long been railing against the idea. Larry Talbot is supposed to be a normal dude before he gets bitten by a werewolf and turned into the Wolfman. The Rock is far from a normal dude. You know who is a normal dude? Ryan Gosling, that’s who! That’s why I’m stoked that Gosling has been given the role.

It isn’t just that Gosling isn’t The Rock, though. The fact that he can portray a credible everyman. The dude can act. This is good news. It’s a double win, as we get both a gifted director and a gifted lead actor. Now if someone can just convince them to go old-school with the Wolfman’s design, to go practical instead of using CGI, or at least use a fusion of the two. The werewolf looked great in the 2010 remake. That’s because Rick Baker created the design. They only used CGI for the transformation and a few action sequences. Let’s do that again.
