‘Watchmen’ Screenwriter David Hayter to Direct New Werewolf Movie ‘Wolves’

The screenwriter for Watchmen got pretty much none of the glory involved in the film; writers rarely get any of the fame, especially when it’s for a film. Which is why it’s an event to gasp and cream over, now that David Hayter has taken on directing; but not just any directing. I mean, it’s not like he’s going to be directing some sissified romantic comedy. He’s directing an effing werewolf movie!

Fangoria has more details on the film:

“Thanks to an overseas distribution deal made with French company TF1 and financing by Winchester, WATCHMEN screenwriter David Hayter is finally getting to direct his first feature length film, WOLVES.

Deadline reports that Hayter is looking at a July start on WOLVES, an $18 million budget “thriller” that Hayter describes as, “TWILIGHT with a bit more bite to it, and without abstinence.” Hayter says he deconstructed past werewolf films, removed the mythology that haunted those movies and came up with a story that’s a metaphor for a teen maturing sexually into adulthood, at the age when young men howl at the moon. Canada-based E1 will handle Canadian distribution on WOLVES.”

Wow, so… more sex, more profanity, less sissy stuff, eek! I’m for it; I think I might have just gotten wet. The budget is small, for films these days, but I have faith. If anyone can turn $18 million into werewolf awesomeness, it’s David Hayter.
