Was I too quick to write off TEEN WOLF?

Teen Wolf is an American television series that currently airs on MTV, and in re-runs on TeenNick. It is based on the 1985 film of the same name.

Maybe it’s worth a second look. I remember when it was announced that TEEN WOLF would be a new series on MTV. I do recall with a certain degree of fondness the 80s film starring Michael J. Fox, but I remember it as lightweight fun at best, nothing deserving of a “reimagining” as a contemporary television series. *Yawn* Just another BUFFY wannabe, I said to myself; I promptly forgot about it. Being a huge werewolf mark, I admit to also being something of a snob. I expect a lot from my lycanthropic entertainments, even the silly stuff, and I tend not to care for teenybopper dramadies. (BUFFY was an exception.)

Then I hear that TEEN WOLF is going into its sixth season. Maybe, I think, if it’s still around, there might be SOME degree of quality to it. I did some research on the program, and read about its darker tone, its heightened levels of violence and gore FX. Okay, NOW I’m getting intrigued. The visuals were inspired by Guillermo Del Toro’s magnificent PAN’S LABYRINTH? Let’s do an image search. Oooh, the werewolf DOES look pretty spiffy. But is the story any good? Can the players actually act? Guess there’s only one way to find out, right? Pass me the remote.
