War for the Planet of the Apes

Can they keep it up? (That’s what she said? And I’m giving myself a self-high five for working in my SECOND “That’s what she said” joke this week!) The first two PLANET OF THE APES prequels were consistently excellent. Can they keep the standard of quality at that level? I sure hope so. From what we’ve seen so far, the new installment sure looks to be comparable to its predecessors, which is to say it looks like it will freakin’ ROCK.

I love all the APES films (except Tim Burton’s misfire) and I’d love to see the series continue. After they work their way up to where it all started with the 1968 Charlton Heston flick, they could jump forward into the future and start giving us actual SEQUELS. If they can keep ‘em good. I’d rather see the series stop than for us to end up with another sloppy Tim Burton space-shuttle-wreck. (This phrase seems more apropos than calling it a trainwreck.) Given the situation we are in as a society today, I wouldn’t even mind it if Planet of the Apes came true in real life, if we could avoid that whole 99% of the human population dying off thing and jump to the apes being in control. I for one would welcome our new simian overlords. It would be a marked improvement over what we have sitting in a position of authority right now, that’s for sure.
