Thomas Jane Talks About His Upcoming Film “The Lycan”

The folks over at Collider recently did an interview with actor Thomas Jane (The Punisher, Deep Blue Sea, Hung) and during the interview Jane briefly spoke about his upcoming werewolf film, The Lycan. That’s right, we’re getting a brand new werewolf movie, and knowing Jane’s work it’s going to be badass! Hurray! The film appears to be an adaptation of the comic of the same name, which was created by Jane and written by Mike Carey. In the interview he reveals, “I’m doing a werewolf movie called The Lycan which is a gothic werewolf romance set in the late 1700s. It’s fuckin’ cool. It’s basically Alien, set in a castle, with werewolves.”

Well, I love me some castles and I totally love werewolves so he has already won me over. Unfortunately, Jane didn’t speak more on the werewolf project, but luckily Raw Studios’ (the company founded by Jane and Tim Broadstreet) website offers up a bit more on The Lycan, giving this synopsis:

“On a remote Scottish island, early in the nineteenth century, an embattled British regiment fights against a legion of werewolves – and the monsters are winning.  The soldiers fall back on a cliff-top castle which has become a convent, the only place on the island that can be fortified and defended.  But the arrival of a merchant captain, Absalom Coffin, and his crew of freebooters, changes the balance of power.  Coffin determines to find the werewolves’ lair – and triggers a chain of events which will spell doom and tragedy for some, redemption for others.”

Sounds pretty damn awesome, I excited to see the final film, whenever it comes out. It appears that Thomas Jane is still in the early stages of the project, which means it may be along while before we see The Lycan. Here’s hoping it’s worth the wait.

What do you guys think of the upcoming movie?

  1. If it’s any good remains to be seen. It will no doubt end up in my collection of werewolf dvds I have.

I do give it a thumbs down for using the name Lycan, that to my knowledge, makes a first appearance in the Underworld series. No different then other games, books, movies, ect that come up with a name like Kindred that Vampires call themselves.

the title screams lack of originality for a cool “werewolf” name.

  2. I’m looking forward to it. Were wolves (in my opinion have been loosing ground since underworld, a little silver screen action will do us some good.
