I happened across this really cool image, a GIF (that means “Graphics Interchange Format” and is pronounced “Jiff”; I know because I looked it up) from MTV’s TEEN WOLF television series. The image, the concept of it, that is, is not original to that show, though. I recognized it immediately as being from an advertisement for the sadly short-lived, ahead of its time TV series WEREWOLF that aired on the fledgling Fox network as part of its inaugural season in 1987-88.
That image and that show made such an impression on me in the glorious days of my childhood that I had it tattooed into my skin a few years ago.
I did an image search via trusty old google but I couldn’t find any examples predating the premiere of WEREWOLF in the late 80s. Even so, I’d be surprised if the image originated with the advertising campaign for that show. I’ll keep an eye out for any examples, and if any of you out there know of any, please share them with the rest of us.
The tattoo, by the way, is still a work in progress, as I recently had the moon in the image redone, and I plan to add some more background in the near future. Maybe some nice dark clouds.
