The Most Expensive Werewolf Book EVER!

Ok ok, it may not be the most expensive werewolf book ever, but it’s definitely the most expensive I have ever seen, that’s for damn sure. The book is The Encyclopedia of Vampires and Werewolves by Rosemary Ellen Guiley, the second edition. The first edition of this book came out a few years ago and costs about $16, but this upcoming second edition costs – wait for it – $85! Seriously, the second edition of this werewolf encyclopedia, which hits stores June 30, costs an insane $85! Damn. Here’s a look at what that money will buy you:

“The Encyclopedia of Vampires and Werewolves, Second Edition provides more than 500 entries exploring the supernatural aspects of these creatures and their pop culture counterparts. Entries describe supposed true historical accounts, how vampires and werewolves come into existence, beliefs about vampires and werewolves, and real-life creatures and cases that may have inspired their legends. The most popular fictional vampires from a range of media are discussed, along with the people who helped create them.

Topics include:

  • Vampire and werewolf legends from many world cultures
  • Discussions of vampires and werewolves in comic books, literature, movies, television, and other media
  • Overviews of the most popular vampire and werewolf movies and television shows from Dracula and The Wolf Man to True Blood and Twilight
  • Discussions of the most influential literature, such as Dracula, Dead Until Dark, Interview with a Vampire, and I Am Legend
  • Biographies of key figures in vampire and werewolf literature and lore, including Lord Byron, Montague Summers, Bram Stoker, Richard Matheson, Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris, Elizabeth Miller, Stephenie Meyer, Vlad Tepes, and many others
  • Actors who portrayed the most famous movie monsters, from Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. to Christopher Lee and Robert Pattinson
  • Real-life vampire and werewolf lifestyle subcultures.

Also included in this invaluable resource are more than 150 full-color and black-and-white photographs and illustrations, suggestions for further reading, and a bibliography.”

Ok, yes that’s a LOT of information. It’s covering a wide variety of info on not only werewolves, but vampires as well, so I can understand a high price tag. But $85 is a bit too high. I want this book, but there’s no way in hell I am buying for that much. What about you guys?

  1. I’d buy it at that price.I want to here how the immortals first came to be. Might help me out with my novel.

  2. No way! I likely have read or know of much of the lore and stoies inside anyway and am not much of a vampire fan anyway. but I might reccomend it for my local library to carry it. In the day of Ebooks, that price is rediculous for any modern mass produced book. Especially when as time goes on, it will begin to date itself as new discoveries, movies, books, stories trends etc are created/uncovered.

  3. lol It looks and sounds like a textbook and it sure has the price of one. But unless I’m taking a college course that requires it I doubt I’d pick it up.

  4. $85 is far too much. Is it at the very least hardback? A sale or used copy sounds far more reasonable.

  5. It sounds like a good read with lots of good info, but not for that much! Who has $85 for a book these days unless, like you guys have said, it’s a text book that you have to have for a course? Maybe e-bay will have it for a lot less…

  6. I would get that book if it wasn’t $85! I mean really who thought that putting the price THAT high would get people to buy it? Maybe you should just wait for E-bay to have it, it will probably cost less then $85.
