The Fouke Monster Meets The Blob!
Did the tile of this article cause your pulse to quicken, just a little bit? If so, you are a true blue Monsterkid! I don’t wanna be a tease, though. This isn’t a forthcoming movie I’m talking about. You’ll see.
By all accounts, the Fouke Monster Festival held last weekend in Fouke, Arkansas was a big hit. Among other things, a highlight of the festival—even though the proprietors of the historic Perot Theater in neighboring Texarkana stressed on their website that their event was separate from the festival for some reason—was the screening, or actually multiple screenings, of the newly digitally restored THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK.
The Festival may be over for this year, but the movie will continue to make its rounds. One of the venues at which it will be screened is the historic Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. This latter is legendary as the movie theater attacked by the titular monster in the 1958 Horror masterpiece THE BLOB as well as the centerpiece of the yearly BLOBFEST, which this year, like the screening of THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK, will take place in July. I’ve been to the Colonial before, but I wish I could be there for the showing of the movie. There could be nothing cooler than viewing a classic monster movie in a theater that served as a location in a classic monster movie.
