The Daughter Of Little Red Riding Hood And…

I must give credit to my online pal Margot Juby for this one. Margot is a fellow Gilles de Rais scholar—she has a book coming out wherein she argues, quite persuadably, that Gilles de Rais was innocent, that he was the victim of a medieval frame-up. (This is an idea I explored in my original play BLUEBEARD: THE TRIAL OF GILLES DE RAIS. It was through our shared interest in De Rais that Margot and I became acquainted.) Margot is also a doll collector. She recently told me about the Cerise Hood doll, a part of the “Ever After High” toy line. This later is a companion line to the popular “Monster High” dolls.

Cerise Hood is the daughter of Little Red Riding Hood. As for her father, might Cerise’s wolf ears and her fondness for meat provide a hint? Yep, her mom was Little Red and her pop was the Big Bad. So how did this happen? Did mother and father cease being enemies at some point after the end of the fairytale? (For that matter, how would the Wolf have survived?) Or is she the product of rape? Did the Wolf get a little further with Red than we were all led to believe?
