The Cursed Skull of Chattanooga Ghost Tours

While visiting the shop of curiosities out of which Chattanooga Ghost Tours is based this past weekend, and interviewing owner Amy Petulla on the subject of the legendary (’round these parts) severed head of the Beast of Sugar Flats Road (see separate article), I heard another story that I knew I had to share with you all. For a time, Ms. Petulla was the owner of a cursed deer skull. This skull had been used as part of a Baphomet, or inverted pentagram, a symbol frequently used for black magic rituals. (Ironically, the word “Baphomet” is a derivation of Mahomet, or Mohammed. And I kinda doubt the Prophet Mohammed would be down with all that black magic stuff. But I digress.) While shopping at a place called the “Unique Boutique” or some such near Nashville (Tennessee), she saw the skull in a back corner booth, nestled amongst the heating ductwork, which, she says now, should have been a clear indication that the proprietor of the booth didn’t intend to sell the skull. But the owner wasn’t there that day, and the person manning the booth sold the skull to Ms. Petulla. She brought it back to her shop in Chattanooga–in a building where the roof soon collapsed. The portion of the roof over the area where the skull was resting, however, remained intact. Then one of her employees was struck by a car, a second was involved in a wreck, and another had to have emergency surgery.

There were ominous warnings, Ms. Petulla said. On the day she purchased the skull, a clear, sunny day, a heavy storm struck just as she was leaving the establishment with the piece. She has checked, she said, and there is no record of it having stormed anywhere in the area on that particular day. Likewise on the day she gave the skull away, handing it over into the keeping of some paranormal researchers, an unexpected downpour hit. The storm, like the wave of bad luck, dissipated as soon as the skull was gone from the premises. Will we be hearing more on this skull at some point in the future? The new owners stated that they planned to run a full gamut of paranormal tests on it. It sounds like the plot for a movie, doesn’t it?

CHATTANOOGA GHOST TOURS is competing in the upcoming SCORE and Sam’s Club American Small Business Championship Weekend, and we wish them well. They deserve an award, as far as I’m concerned, for excellence in storytelling and another for hospitality. We here at werewolves.com appreciate them sharing their personal experiences and voluminous knowledge of spooky Southern folklore with us.
