The Cereal Monsters Are Back!

The kindred spirits over at the collinsporthistoricalsociety join with me this week in celebrating the yearly return to supermarket shelves of our beloved Frankenberry, Boo Berry, Count Chocula, Fruit Brute, and Yummy Mummy breakfast cereals. (Not that I ever ate them exclusively at breakfast. And not that you have to, either. You can enjoy them anytime.) If only the boxes of Monster cereal came with little figurines of the Monsters, the way the boxes of the new collectible Funko cereals do. They’d sell a lot more of them, I predict, if they started including them.

There is also a Monster cereal board game, it seems. It’s called “Monster Crunch! The Breakfast Battle Game” and is a “fast-paced game of luck and strategy [where] players collect as many Cereal Cards in their Bowls as they can. Each Monster has special powers to give you an advantage and help you gobble up the most cereal. Use Milk Tokens to combine Cereal Cards and take bigger bites. The Monster Cereal character that munches the most wins the game!” If appetite determines the victor, I’d have to go with Fruit Brute. The Count is probably on a liquid diet, Boo Berry and Yummy Mummy wouldn’t have any reason to eat at all, and I hear that Frankenberry is actually a vegetarian.
