The Beast of Chickenfoot

It’d been a little while since I took a roadtrip, and this past weekend presented a perfect opportunity. It was a lovely day, but cold, thus ruling out any outdoor activities. An ideal day for driving, then! But where to go?

I’d heard stories about Chickenfoot, an area of Lawrence County, Alabama, for years, but had never been there. Notoriously haunted, it is also known for frequent sightings (“frequent” being a relative term) of the “White Thang”, Alabama’s own cryptid, a possibly shapeshifting albino Sasquatch creature known for running at times on all fours. Destination selected!

The area epitomizes the term “rural”.

The lovely swamp at the foot of Chickenfoot Mountain.

There are tons of stories about unsolved murders and lover’s lane killings and such involving Chickenfoot. They’re all nonsense. If Chickenfoot is rife with paranormal activity, it more likely has to do with the area’s Native American history. And since there have been numerous (again, relatively-speaking) sightings of the White Thang, it could be a “window” area where the fabric between dimensions is thinner.
This is where I turned around. I totally could have made it across, but the person I was with might have insisted I didn’t try it. I found myself wishing I’d driven my old 4×4, but alas…
