Oh, this sounds like fun!
AMC theaters are offering special event “Surprise Screenings” all throughout October. You buy your ticker for just five bucks, then show up—not knowing what movie you’re going to be seeing! Taking a risk? Maybe. But not too much of one, I think, as AMC promises us that the movies “under this banner come from a variety of styles, budgets, genres and corners of the globe, but they all share something: a desire to explore the things that scare us the most…We’re always striving to provide you with ideal moviegoing experiences, and AMC Thrills & Chills brings the best in horror and suspense to our theatres.” Sounds like the odds of buying a ticket and then being subjected to something like HOWLING III are fairly low. If I worked for AMC and was in charge of setting all this up, it would be funny—to me—to Rickroll the audience by dropping POULTRYGEIST on them. But I doubt AMC would assign such a task to anyone with as twisted a sense of humor as I possess.
This weekend’s already gonna be crazy busy for me, with the new Venom and Addams Family movies opening, and DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN showing as Fathom Events, plus I’m attending a live theatrical production where one of my original short stories is being given a dramatic reading. But I gotta see if I can’t squeeze in a surprise screening, too, as the first one takes place this Friday!
