Robert Englund has been a horror icon for years, –he’s been in more horror movies than most people even realize. Englund isn’t just Fred Kruger, –he also had his own mystery/sci-fi anthology show. Something like a cross between Tales from the Crypt and X-Files, called The Nightmare Cafe. Check out Englund’s IMDb page sometime; the man is practically a horror all-star. Not a veteran, either, because he’s still in the game, and practically raking in cameos and starring roles. But werewolves definitely constitute as a rare venture for Englund, –especially since he’ll be playing one in this new raunchy werewolf flick that features strippers as one of the conflicting forces of nature.
FilmShaft picks up a few tidbits of news surrounding the new werewolf film, including new additions to the cast of strippers, and the date filming starts, –which was today!
“We’ve been tracking a new horror movie in production called Strippers Vs. Werewolves. It’s a title that grabs you, no? We reported last week that top model Lucy Pinder had joined the cast as a vampire bride and also filling out the cast is Alan Ford, Billy Murray and Barbara Nedeljakova.
Now we can reveal Nightmare on Elm Street icon Robert Englund will make British debut in Jonathan Glendenning’s flick!
Englund will play Tapper, a sinister werewolf pack leader. Filming began today (16th May) in locations around London.
Jonathan Sothcott, who is producing the film with Simon Phillips, commented:
“Robert is the ultimate horror movie star – and we are honoured to have him on board and proud of ourselves for being the first British producers to secure him for a movie here. Robert has a dignity and gravitas as an actor that lifts any film he’s in. He’s the cherry on our cake.”
The 35 year movie veteran, who has played razor-fingered killer Freddy Kruger seven times in the blockbuster ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ series has also starred in ‘Wishmaster’, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘2001 Maniacs’ and the cult television series ‘V’.
Centred around VIXENS, a London strip-club, STRIPPERS VS WEREWOLVES stars Adele Silva, Barbara Nedeljakova, Ali Bastian, Coralie Rose, Billy Murray, Alan Ford, Sarah Douglas and Nick Nevern.
Producers are Jonathan Sothcott and Simon Phillips, who recently joined Black & Blue Films, having helmed Airborne (with Mark Hamill) and How To Stop Being A Loser. It is directed by Jonathan (13 Hrs) Glendenning.”
Cherry on a cake? He -is- the cake. Anyway, the movie sounds like it’s going to be a classic entry into schlocky B-movie fare, sure to gain cult status at some point soon after its release. Some people make movies to make money, this is true, but Englund rarely joins a film project that’s full-on commercial, –therefore we know that Englund as a werewolf is all about making a movie for the people, not for the cash. And we’re ready for some werewolf horror that doesn’t swim through the mainstream, so much as it pollutes it with awesomeness rarely found in theaters that force you to pay $20 per ticket. Now, finally, we get to see Were-Freddy!
