Or, at the very least, a movie or something. One thing we can say for sure is that the series won’t end with the fourth season, and this despite the twin facts that filming for it had to be put on hold due to the ‘Rona and has yet to fully resume, and that the young cast members are getting awfully grown-up during the delay. Honestly a fifth season might find them all young adults, going about their young adult lives and dealing with paranormal threats. That’s not necessarily a problem. If the show turns into STRANGER THINGS: THE COLLEGE YEARS that isn’t an automatic kiss of death. BEVERLY HILLS 90210 kept going for years after sending their stars off to college. (Whether it should have is another matter altogether.)
How can we know that season four won’t be the end? Because the Duffer Brothers said so! “Season four won’t be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [We’ve had] time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.” That’s what they told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “We’ve had a lot more time to work on the scripts. For the first time, we have all the scripts written and we’re able to look at it as a whole piece and make adjustments.”
I have faith in the guys to wrap it up right, and at the right time, and not pull a John Logan with it. Just how long we’ll all have to wait for that fourth season, though, is still up in the air.
