STRANGER THINGS Season Three Inspired by Chevy Chase

They told us to look to the movies that came out in 1985 for clues to the plot of the upcoming third season of STRANGER THINGS. As they had also stated that the season would have a John Carpenter vibe to it, I quickly deduced that, as THE GOONIES came out in the summer of 85, and as Carpenter directed THE FOG, and the common denominator between the two movies is pirates, the third season of the smash Netflix series would feature pirates! Alas, I was wrong.

The movie from which the writers will be borrowing for season three of the show is one that I would have never suspected. I doubt anyone would have. That movie is FLETCH, a comedy starring Chevy Chase. Said David Harbour, Sheriff Hopper himself: “The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies. And FLETCH is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn’t expect from STRANGER THINGS, and you wouldn’t expect from the Spielberg universe, and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season.”

Wait, he said ONE movie. That means there could be others. That means all hope is not lost that we’ll see some pirates!
