Soul Calibur V Game Trailer Released – And There’s a Werewolf!

Namco Bandai recently released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Soul Calibur V, which will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 January 31, 2012. This latest trailer catches players up on the 17 year span between Soul Calibur IV and the new game. But the best part about the new trailer is that it gives us a peek at new characters, like the werewolf Z.W.E.I.

Here’s the new trailer:

Werewolf! The trailer may not show us much of this new Z.W.E.I. character, but fortunately, the official Soul Calibur website does. Check it out:

“No one knew his real name; a strange alias and vague rumors about his origins were all anyone had to go by.

They called him a werewolf. Some swore they’d seen him summon a strange beast to fight by his side. Others claimed corpses were found in every city he left behind…

In truth, Z.W.E.I. was a hunted man, on the run from assassins sent by Graf Dumas of Hungary. He had dared to interfere with Dumas’ purge of the malfested, a witch hunt that falsely accused and executed innocent people.

But Z.W.E.I.’s life was about to change. He rescued a fortune teller named Viola who possessed inhuman powers like his own, and the pair became traveling companions. Continuing his journey while protecting Viola from Dumas’ assassins proved difficult, but Siegfried found the two fugitives and took them in under his protection.

Out of gratitude, Z.W.E.I. agreed to Siegfried’s request: he would find a successor worthy of Soul Calibur. Would Z.W.E.I., too, find his destiny changed by the clash of the two great swords?”

So, the site gives us a bit more info on the character, but I guess we have to actually play the game to get the full details.

Anyone here a Soul Calibur fan? Are you excited about this new werewolf character?

  1. I haven’t played any of the previous games. But it’s up for consideration to rent first and see how it goes.

  2. He’s no werewolf. He summons a wolf-like humanoid creature partially into existence (like an armor-wearing version of the creature floating behind Tekken Tag Tournament’s boss character “Unknown”) as an extension of some of his attacks.

  3. Generalization, thy name is japan. Z.W.E.I. is no werewolf, and his pal Ein is more like a wolf-like apparition/ghost. He’s a spirit summoner. It would be cool if he could summon Ein in a four-legged form for ranged attacks or merge with it for a true werewolf form, but lame floating torso deal is all we get. A Stand-like ghostly helper. Surely we aren’t so desperate here that you’re willing to consider a humanoid wolf spirit a true werewolf? Valkenhayne R. Hellsing from Blazblue 2 Continuum Shift is a true werewolf…where’s this site’s mention of *him*? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TityTwaZH6M&feature=related

    1. I think I’ll wait until the game is actually released before I make any quick judgements. We saw him for about 10 seconds in the trailer, the trailer mentions he is a werewolf, and that’s what we’re going on. Just have to wait and see if he has any abilities the trailer doesn’t mention or show.

      1. I’ve seen hours of gameplay vids from Korea and Japan. He doesn’t turn into a wolf, therefore not a werewolf. EIN is just a summoned attack extension. You know, there are websites dedicated to the Soul Calibur series. That’s how I know and where I saw the vids. Go to 8wayrun.com. It’s the only site that has actual contact with Namco/Bandai, and they get their vids straight from tourneys and Namco themselves.

        1. Chill out man, all I said what that the trailer that they released says “werewolves.” I didn’t say anything else, I just pointed out what the trailer said. You need to take a breath and not spaz over something so silly.

          1. Who’s freaking out? I’m just dropping facts on you. Do you see me insulting anyone, using tons of exclamation points or shouting in caps? I’m just trying to correct Namco’s accidental mis-information so newbs to the series don’t go in expecting Gallon/Jon Talbain, then drop a perfectly awesome fighter simply because there are no werewolves in it.

  4. Don’t bother with SoulCaliber V.

I’ve played it, and there’s nothing worth your attention unless you really want to play online. Single-Player is cheap, lacking any good modes, Create-a-Character is just that, and that’s it. However, despite the titilation covers that Japan put out, the game is thankfully clean.
