I really like the Soska sisters. They’re young women (young attractive women, though that hardly matters), identical twins and hardcore geeks. *Talented* young female geeks, which is something even more rare. I’ve heard them speak on behind-the-scenes features in regards to their films and they seem like a couple of cool dudettes. But this director team of such films as the excellent AMERICAN MARY is currently in hot water. I should state that I do not know either of the Soskas. I have no vested interest in either their success or failure. And while I’m a fan of their work, I have also disagreed with some of their stances; their accusing all the men who enjoyed Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD as being Harvey Weinstein defenders (if not abusers themselves), for instance. All this is to say, I am an unbiased observer, here.
The Soskas ran into some trouble with Twitter when the latter stupidly started censoring imagery from the sisters’ upcoming remake of RABID. Unfortunately the sisters seemed to subscribe to the “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” school of thought and took their complaints to some notorious rightwing conspiracy nutjob’s outlet (the idiotic “Pizzagate” conspiracy). This led, unsurprisingly, to condemnation. And that led to a lot of allegations coming out that the sisters are not nice, are hard to work with, are disingenuous, are downright abusive, etc. Others have come to their defense—vehemently. Me, I’m just reporting on all this. If you’re really interested, study up on it and make up your own minds.
