Shuri Out?

Reports are that Marvel is realizing that it backed the wrong horse. Personally I think it was a mistake for them not to recast the role of T’Challa in the new BLACK PANTHER movie. It could have been a T’Challa from an alternate universe; that way they could have kept Chadwick Boseman’s character sacrosanct and still had a Black Panther named T’Challa who is king of Wakanda. But if they aren’t going to do that, if they are going to insist on making T’Challa’s sister Shuri the Black Panther in his stead, they screwed the pooch royally by casting Letitia Wright. Reports are that they now realize this, and they’ve altered the ending of the forthcoming BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER so as *not* to give Shuri the mantle. That’s good, since Letitia Wright is a disgrace to the character.

Wright is supposed to return to the set in January, but she won’t be able to if she doesn’t get vaccinated, as her home country of Great Britain won’t let her on an international flight unvaccinated. It will be interesting to see what happens. Personally I expect her to get the axe. That doesn’t mean they’re going to reshoot the entire movie, though. They’ll just reshoot the ending.

To quote from the linked article: “Wright had the opportunity to mean so much to so many people, much like Boseman’s Marvel hero, and she seemed to have squandered it all. [Edit: Yes, she did.] The young actress is clearly generating some friction within Marvel Studios, and her personal convictions may have lost her a once-in-a-lifetime chance. [Edit: Good!] While this does not mean she has been fired from Wakanda Forever (at least not yet), it does make sense that if director Ryan Coogler was going to hand her the Black Panther mantle in the beginning, Marvel Studios, Coogler, and his team make some changes and perhaps have someone else carry the Wakandan hero’s torch. [Edit: Let’s hope!]”

Disney should have gotten rid of Wright as soon as she tipped her hand to her true character (or lack thereof). She is unworthy. May the Panther god chew her up and spit her out!
