Revisiting the Classics: CREEPSHOW

I’m talking about the original film from 1982, not the new Internet series. Written by Stephen King and directed by George Romero, how could such a project possibly go wrong? (Actually, considering a few of the scripts Mr. King has written for the movies, his involvement might not serve as any guarantee of quality. Anybody remember SLEEPWALKERS? It was a lot of fun, but a *good* movie? Not quite. But it had George Romero!) Watching CREEPSHOW as an adult I find I love it even more than when I was a kid, as I can appreciate the humor more as a grown-up, and the performances.

After all these years, though, my favorite of the anthology pieces remains THE CRATE. I think it is the best story of all the ones involved, and it has the coolest monster. Since Hollywood has gone remake crazy these days, might I suggest somebody make a feature-length sequel to THE CRATE. I don’t want another vignette. I want a complete movie. We know that the creature, Fluffy, escaped from the crate at the end of the story. Why not show us what it’s been up to in the decades since? Dust off the old Fluffy monster suit and puppet parts and get to it!
