‘Red: Werewolf Hunter’ Coming Soon to DVD

Red: Werewolf Hunter is a SyFy original movie that aired a long while back and is just now making its way to DVD (finally). Come January 3, 2012, we’ll be able to buy the DVD and watch Felicia Day, the Geek Goddess, kick werewolf ass again and again.

In Red: Werewolf Hunter, the modern-day descendant of Little Red Riding Hood brings her fiancé home to meet her family and reveal their occupation as werewolf hunters, but after he is bitten by a werewolf, she must protect him from her own family.

In an interview, Day touched a little on her character Virginia and her family’s history as werewolf hunters and their ties to Little Red Riding Hood.

“…it’s sort of a family legacy. It’s a legacy they have to control the wolves. It’s more driven and inspired by fairy tales. I’m a huge fan of fairy tales. I wanted to be a folklore minor in college. I’ve always been obsessed with fairy tales, just because that’s where all our storytelling comes from. So, the idea of taking these traditional stories and making something more modern out of it is a really clever idea. It’s really fun to be a part of it.”

Day also said that, “It’s a movie about secrets. Basically, my character wants to be able to come clean and live a whole life. She has this secret burden of being a werewolf hunter and she has a fiancé who she wants to come clean to… We’re dealing with the supernatural and large fight scenes, but at the same time, it’s really just about this family, and the struggle and burden of responsibility, which seems to be a running theme in paranormal stories.”

I missed it when it was on TV, but I definitely plan on checking it out once it hits stores in January. Sadly, there is no word yet on what the DVD extra features will be, or if there will even be any at all. Guess we just have to wait and see.

Have any of you seen Red: Werewolf Hunter, if so, what did you think?

  1. I missed it when it aired, seeing it’s coming to dvd, I will be picking this up to add to my collection of werewolf movies.

    1. I don’t expect very much when it comes to the Sy-Fy channel movies.

It won’t stop me from adding it to my collection of werewolf movies, both good and bad.

  2. I saw it it wasn’t an atrocity to film or anything it just didn’t have the best production value although like none of the sci fi channel movies do basically they could have done better with the werewolves and had the weapons make more sense and oh a flashback in the begining with red riding hood wouldve really been awesome it just didn’t live to what I had hoped but Felicia is totally hot in it
