There are those who feel movies about infamous crimes or infamous criminals shouldn’t be made, as doing so glorifies the said criminals and their actions. This is a legitimate concern. On the other hand, such crimes are a part of history, and it is never a good idea to gloss over the ugly parts of history just because they might make us uncomfortable. Remember the saying about those who do not learn from history ending up repeating it. As long as movies about serial killers aren’t trying to depict the killers as heroes or defend their actions, I’m good with it.
That being the case, it’s hard not to get excited about the news that Quentin Tarantino is planning a movie based on the Manson murders. As one of the most original and inventive voices in Hollywood, it will sure be interesting to see what Tarantino brings to the project. Supposedly Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence are in negotiations (meaning their lawyers are wrangling with Tarantino’s lawyers over contracts) to star in the film. The movie is slated to start filming next year.
Now the big question in every fan’s mind is going to be, who’s gonna play Charlie? Could that be the role Brad Pitt is in the running for?
