My college Biology class was tough. I was one of maybe a half dozen students out of thirty to actually pass. I say this not to brag, but to illustrate what a hard class it was. It didn’t come naturally to me, as did my English and History courses. Even so, I enjoyed it. The professor was entertaining as well as knowledgeable, and he encouraged lively classroom discussion. While we were covering genetic manipulation, he told us something that really struck a chord with me. The technology exists, he said, RIGHT NOW to create animal-human hybrids. What keeps it from happening is the ethical dilemma and the high costs that would be involved. Still, scientists COULD do it. Right now. Today. That’s a freaky thought, isn’t it?
Will it ever happen? It’s hard to believe otherwise. Somebody, in some lab somewhere, will inevitably push the envelope, doing the thing just because it has never before been done and to prove that it CAN be done, if it is at all possible for them to accomplish it. The result would be the emergence into real life of the type creature only seen before on the silver screen, and in nightmares. Will a true beast-man someday walk the earth?
