MTV Actually Made ‘Death Valley’

A long while back MTV announced that they planned on creating a show titled Death Valley that was supposed to be like Cops and Reno 911, but with vampires, werewolves and zombies. When the news hit it had everyone talking, but then, well the story faded away and we all forgot about it – until now. Over a year later we are hearing about Death Valley again because MTV actually made the show, they even have previews of it up on their website. Yeah, I didn’t think they were actually going to go through with it.

Here’s more info from the MTV’s Death Valley page:

“A year ago, vampires, werewolves and zombies mysteriously descended upon the streets of California’s San Fernando Valley. Death Valley is the dark comedy that follows the cops that capture the monsters, and the camera crew that captures the cops.

Follow the horrific yet comedic exploits of the newly formed Undead Task Force (UTF), a division of the LAPD created to combat the emergence of monsters in the San Fernando Valley. Death Valley showcases the outrageous and courageous men and women working the toughest beat in the US: Death Valley.

Balancing dark humor with horror, the show is built upon cold-blooded conflict and character driven comedy, following the cops bent on keeping the streets safe from the presence of the paranormal. Documenting each case of zombie, vampire and werewolf encounter is the daring camera crew that is embedded within the task force, quickly revealing that the monster problem goes much deeper than anyone could have possibly imagined.

Full of subtext about living in today’s insane world, Death Valley is at its core a fun, non-stop thrill ride featuring chases, hardcore kills, and extraordinary creatures. The zombies are disgusting, menacing and brutal, the vampires are dangerous, smart and powerful and the werewolves are beastly and insane. From “blood-for-sex” prostitution busts to undead traffic jams, every call from dispatch will take you to a place you’ve never been: right to the bleeding heart of Death Valley.”

So, it’s another fake reality show, like Reno 911, but it has supernatural beasties in it. Ok. The show has potential, it could be absolutely hilarious, but knowing MTV and their past ventures into comedy I don’t see Death Valley being all that impressive. MTV sucks at comedy, at least I think so. But who knows, they could surprise us this time. We’ll find out when the show premiers August 29 at 10:30/9:30c.

Check out the rtailer and let me know what you think. Will you give the show a shot?

  1. I’ll have to agree with the whole possibly-wasted potential thing. Besides, it’s not like this hasn’t been done…I’m not the only one that remembers X-Files, after all (though that one was, blissfully, not fake-reality TV!). It’s not like the supernatural genre hasn’t been overridden with trite offal (alas…), so I’m leery of this as well.

  2. Well, teen wolf surprised me with being so good for an mtv show. I think they’ve earned their right to be given a chance.

    1. Yes, Teen Wolf is good I agree. But when MTV tries to do comedy shows, they tend to fail. But I may give it a shot.

  3. I thought it was good until I started seeing more adult content, (you know what i mean if you’ve seen the trailer) and less supernatural content, I realize that’s kind of the MTV thing, but it’s a public channel, what if some little kid accidentally saw this?!?! besides, I think with Twilight almost done, and Harry Potter, Teen Wolf and Being Human, along with other shows, the media needs to find something else besides vampires, werewolves and the occasional flesh eating zombie.

    1. I think…you need to look at what’s on TV more often–this “adult content” isn’t isolated. That, and fat chance of MTV doing anything better (though they’ll change gear when the Twicrap hype dies down). I’m not going to argue my point about Teen Wolf being written by morons, since I’m in the minority and it’s mildly unrelated, but we can’t expect much out of a station that deals almost exclusively in rap “music videos” and reality shows that prove humanity is doomed.
