Movie Review: UNHINGED

There’s a moral to this story. A lesson to be learned. That lesson can be summed up in two little words: Be nice. In general, yes, that’s always a good idea, but particularly in traffic. Because you never know. That person you’re blaring your horn at or flipping off might just be a homicidal maniac planning his last day on earth and looking for people to take with him when he exits. That’s the premise of UNHINGED. And hell, yes, it’s a Horror movie. Don’t let anybody tell you it isn’t. It’s more of a Horror film than any supernatural shocker or ghost story, because it’s so imminently possible. It could happen. It *has* happened.

The acting is across-the-board good. Russell Crowe, who looks to have packed on a hundred pounds for the role (could’ve been a fat suit, but it looks realistic), is fantastic as the aforementioned maniac. The realism of the acting makes what happens onscreen all the more unsettling, and make no mistakes, this one gets violent in a hurry. While it loses a few points with me because there are some minor implausibilities, and because it sacrifices its heard-earned realism at the end because they just *had* to have their heroine get in that typically Hollywood zinger, UNHINGED is still a hell of a ride. Grade: A-.
