It’s a rarity, as you all know, to have a sequel be as good as the original film that preceded it. Rarer still to have one that exceeds the original. Does A QUIET PLACE PART TWO fall into that category? If the original A QUIET PLACE was THE GODFATHER, is the new one THE GODFATHER PART TWO? If A QUIET PLACE is NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, is this new one DAWN OF THE DEAD? That’s debatable. One thing that’s not debatable? That the two A QUIET PLACE movies are good enough to warrant comparison to those other films. If the new one isn’t better even than the original, it’s as least as good. And that’s really saying something.
John Krasinski, should he choose to continue working in the genre, could well be the next John Carpenter or the next Wes Craven. This guy has major chops. Yes, the guy who played Jim on THE OFFICE could be the next great Master of Horror if he wants to. He’s that talented. (Bear in mind that he wrote as well as directed and starred in these films. I got nothing but respect for the dude.)
It’s been well over a year since we were supposed to see A QUIET PLACE PART TWO. It was one of the first films to be pulled from the release schedule last year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. It was well worth the wait.
