This is the guy who brought us GERALD’S GAME, THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, the underrated OCULUS, and the amazeballs DOCTOR SLEEP, just in case you didn’t recognize the name. The dude knows what he’s doing, for sure, and what he does best is high-quality Horror. And he wants to do a Clayface movie. That’s the Batman villain Clayface, if you didn’t recognize the name.
Clayface has never been portrayed in a movie before, and the character has, in my not-so-humble opinion, a ton of potential. “I’ve wanted to do a Superman movie since I was a kid, but I would also be really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy,” said Flanagan. Since DC’s approach to doing movies now is to offer an unconnected or tangentially-connected multiverse, why would they not want to let Flanagan take a crack at this one? Let him take it and make it dark, scary A. F., give it a hard R rating and then sit back and watch the cash roll in. Such a movie could be done on the cheap, relatively speaking, and is guaranteed to bring in a profit.
Clayface is a villain whose body is made out of a gloopy biological material resembling clay, hence his name, but he can transform himself temporarily into the likeness of anyone. Just think of the storytelling possibilities, there! I really hope DC takes him up on his offer.
