Look for BEAST in May

It’s been making the rounds on the film circuit, and scoring some impressive reviews. Now it’s scheduled for release on May 11th. The “it” we are speaking of is a movie called BEAST, the debut project of writer-slash-director Michael Pearce. For me, I always give extra credence to news of a new genre project from a writer-director. Such people tend to be auteurs in the truest sense of the word, with their own unique visions. More times than not, they bring something fresh, and often fabulous, to the masses.

What’s BEAST about? Here’s what their promo has to say: “[The film] centers around a small island community where a troubled young woman falls for a mysterious outsider who empowers her to escape from her oppressive family. When he comes under suspicion for a series of brutal murders she defends him at all costs and learns what she is capable of.” Hmm. Considering that it is referred to as a “warped adult fairy tale,” might we be seeing a contemporary retelling of the classic “Beauty and the Beast”? And as the promo makes mention of “a series of brutal murders,” exactly what sort of “beast” will we get? One can only hope.
