Kongzilla

This past week brought the disappointing news that GODZILLA VS. KONG has been pushed back an entire year to summer of 2021. Which sucks. A tiny nugget of other kaiju-related news also came out. Michael Dougherty, director of GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, shared a photo of his Kongzilla figure. This has people speculating that he’s teasing that Kongzilla might be appearing in some future Monsterverse movie. As cool as that would be, I expect he was just showing off his figure.

You don’t know who, or what, Kongzilla is, you say? The name ought to tip you off. (That’s *tip* you off, not flip you off.) Kongzilla is a hybrid of King Kong and Godzilla. A company called Bowen Designs posited what such a hybrid would look like—and it looks frikkin’ bodacious! Back when Godzilla and King Kong tussled the first time, in the 1962 Japanese film KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, both monsters left DNA at the scene. This DNA was collected by shady scientist types—oh, those shady scientist types, always up to no good!—who then fused it and used it to grow Kongzilla in a lab. That’s the story.

Now I really want to see Kongzilla in a movie. That is one badass beast!
