Jughead’s a Werewolf?!

I never really read the Archie comics. If I were more of a fan, it might upset me more than it has, the way they’re screwing with the characters and the mythos. There’s that new television show, where they’re trying to turn it into BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. (Haven’t watched it.) Then there’s that comic featuring a grown-up Archie, where they killed him off. (Sounds pretty stupid, if I’m honest.) Then, so someone told me, they did a crossover with the Predator, and the homicidal alien killed off the entire cast. (ALSO sounds pretty stupid.) Now I learn that Jughead is being turned into a werewolf. Ooooookay…

I figure the publishers are just desperate to hang onto readers in this day and age. I know a lot of people who read comic books, but nary a one who reads anything Archie related. I used to work in a comic book store some years ago, and we never had any customers who bought Archie. It would seem the publishers are trying to attract demographics within the comics community that would not otherwise read or buy their product. Is it working/will it work? I couldn’t say. If we continue to see such acid-trip departures from the typical Archie canon, then we can assume that, yes, sales are up. Anybody planning on reading the adventures of Jughead the Werewolf?
