Jackalman (and the Thundercats)

I’m writing it the way they spell it, but it really should be “Jackal Man,” or even better, hyphenated like “Spider-Man.” “Jackal-Man” gives you an accurate idea of what the name is describing. “Jackalman” sounds like an obscure Jewish surname; which, if I remember correctly from the mythos of the cartoons, it may have been. Eh, whatever. Do you remember Jackalman from the Thundercats toy line and cartoon series? He was always one of my favorites, although I usually didn’t play with him as the character from Thundercats. He looked like a werewolf, or as close to a werewolf action figure as you could find at your local five-and-dime in the days of my childhood, so I always played with him as a werewolf, reenacting my own little imaginary Horror movies. Beast-Man from the Master of the Universe line got the same treatment, then once I became obsessed with professional wrestling, all my action figures became wrestlers. Jackal Man (here I could call him what I wanted) would sometimes kill his opponents in the ring and eat them.

There’s a new Jackalman figure being released, along with Mumm-Ra (who served as Jackal Man’s sometimes tag-team partner in my imaginings) and others. But they’re high-format figures and are gonna cost an arm and a leg. I might have to buy one anyway.
