I seem to recall Reece Witherspoon doing a movie wherein she played a real person, and this lady had gone off on some kind of walkabout or something, trekking into the wilderness. Then there was that Grizzly Man guy, who went to live with bears, taking his girlfriend with him, and then the bears ate the two of them. Writer Farley Mowat didn’t exactly live with wolves, but he did get pretty dang close to a pack of them. The point is, people going off into the wild to “find themselves” or to study or commune with Nature is not a novel thing. I must confess, though, that this particular case is a new one for me.
A 35-year-old British dude named Thomas Thwaites decided to go live as a goat in the Swiss Alps. He went so far as to wear prosthetic goat limbs to complete the illusion. Why? I have no idea. Disillusioned with life, it would seem. Still, he only stayed out there a week. Just how much can one transform into a goat in such a short amount of time? And why a goat? Why not try to hook up with a wolfpack? Because wolves aren’t vegetarians, naturally. Goats weren’t as likely to kill and eat him, like happened to that Grizzly guy.
