Is It Worth It?

I don’t know. I’ve had friends tell me they ran the numbers and it doesn’t end up saving you all that much money. I’m talking about “MoviePass.” That’s the new program where you pay one low monthly bill–it’s like $10, right?–and you get to see all the movies you want. But that doesn’t factor in popcorn and drinks, they say. Okay, so? That’s still a BIG discount for somebody like me, a dedicated cinephile. I question their figuring. I’m more concerned by two other things. One, how can this thing possibly be legit? If it sounds too good to be true, we all remember, then it IS too good to be true. Are they going to use my personal information in some illegal or nefarious fashion if I sign up with them?

The other thing is, if the whole joint isn’t a scam of some kind, how can they possibly stay in business? I don’t want to sign up and then have them fold and then I’m out money. Do you just pay on a month by month basis?

I’d go see even more movies than I do if it were cheaper, and if I had the time. I have a busy schedule, and when things get hectic it can be hard to make it to the theater. But I’d make the effort if the prices were lower, or if I got in to any of them for a low blanket fee. I’d try to catch every Horror flick that comes out, when it comes out, and then I could review it for you all here. (No, sadly, I don’t usually receive free tickets in exchange for writing reviews. I don’t mind so much, though, because the movies I see and review are movies that I’d want to see, anyway.) I know you can’t see “special” movies with MoviePass. No 3D or Imax showings or anything like that. Still, it SOUNDS good. Too good.

What do you all think? Anybody have it and use it? Would you recommend it?
