In Memoriam: Peggy Lipton

Man, when you’re a part of the “cult” that is attached to a cult TV show, to lose one of the people who made up that show, it feels all too personal. I belong to the TWIN PEAKS cult, and when we lose one of the residents of that strange little town it is like losing a member of your family. Peggy Lipton had a long and storied career. Her biography is lengthy. She was a singer, model, and actress with a hefty resume, but to me she will always be Norma Jennings, the lovelorn owner of the RR Diner on TWIN PEAKS.

During the third season of the series in 2017 (I can’t believe it’s been two years since this show returned to the airwaves) Norma finally got to be with the love of her life, Big Ed Hurley. I’m so glad her story was resolved, but saddened because now, if David Lynch ever gets around to making that expected and longed-for finale to the series (there is a reference to a “curtain call” at the end of season three, remember), Norma and Big Ed won’t get to be in it. For me, Norma will always be there in her restaurant, serving up the best pie anywhere, and a damn good cup of Joe.
