You missed the boat, Guillermo! And that’s unfortunate. For us viewers, I mean. Because as good as the remake of PET SEMATARY was, I daresay I speak for all of us when I say we’d love to have seen what you could do with the property.
Guillermo del Toro recently told the folks over at the Fangoria Podcast Network: “You know the novel that I would have killed to adapt, and I know there’s two versions of it, and I still think maybe in a deranged universe I get to do it again one day, is Pet Sematary. Because it not only has the very best final couple of lines of the [Stephen] King oeuvre, but it scared me when I was a young man. As a father, I now understand it better than I ever would have, and it scares me a hundred times more. I’d love to be able to do it.”
Instead of a straight adaptation, howzabout we let Guillermo do an original story set in the same universe as the new PET SEMATARY? The titular burial ground is still there, after all. Give Guillermo free reign and let him work his magic!
