Frostbite: A Werewolf Tale

WellingtonFrostbiteWith vampires being as popular as they are nowadays, werewolves aren’t getting too much entertainment love. There are loads of vampire books being released every week but not too many werewolf books; hopefully in the future that will change. As of right now most of the werewolf books coming out are romance novels, which is all well and good but we want ourselves a real badass wolf book. Looking through upcoming werewolf books one particular book caught my eye; Frostbite: A Werewolf Tale by David Wellington.

David Wellington is a horror novel king that has written quite a few supernatural horror novels. Most of his novels are all about vampires but this new book is about our beloved werewolves. Hurray! From the looks of all the excellent reviews on Wellington’s writing, his work is dark, unique and …scary. All makings of a good horror tale.

This new novel, Frostbite is the first book in a new series, and to copy the book description…

There’s one sound a woman doesn’t want to hear when she’s lost and alone in the Arctic wilderness: a howl.

When a strange wolf’s teeth slash Cheyenne’s ankle to the bone, her old life ends, and she becomes the very monster that has haunted her nightmares for years. Worse, the only one who can understand what Chey has become is the man–or wolf–who’s doomed her to this fate. He also wants to chop her head off with an axe.

Yet as the line between human and beast blurs, so too does the distinction between hunter and hunted . . . for Chey is more than just the victim she appears to be. But once she’s within killing range, she may find that–even for a werewolf–it’s not always easy to go for the jugular.

Sounds pretty rad right? Now, if you can’t wait until October 6 when the book is released you can go over here, to the author’s site and read the book online. This way you can check the book out, if you love it then you can buy book itself, if you don’t then you saved some cash. Win win.

  1. Thank you! There are sooo many vampire books, movies, etc. out there. That’s why I’m trying to write a werewolf book. Gotta give the werewolves some love too :)

  2. i no of 2 werewolf books that a really good, there called Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs and Hunting Grounds also by Patricia Briggs. there might be a book before of after those 2, seeing as they’re a novel, but then i don’t know, i’m still searchin for 1 if there is 1.

    1. You may also like the Anita Blake vampire hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton, Angel. There are lots of werewolves in the series, but also other were-animals (were-lions, were-rats, etc.). The werewolves and how their packs run is really interesting.

  3. A rather different kind of werewolf novel is Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar. There is also Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow another even more unique novel that is actually written in prose.

You also might want to check out Wolfman (not the movie) I cannot remember the author but it came out in the last year or so.

There is also Silver Wolf and Night of the Wolf by Alice Borchardt (sister to Anne Rice) that you may also find interesting.

Sorry if these have already been discussed on this site but this is my first visit.

  4. Christina Dodd writes some really good werewolf books, I believe. Scent of Darkness is the first one I think. One of the interesting things about that is that there’s a family of shapeshifters, and not just wolves. (I’m pretty sure, it’s been a while since I read it and I’ve only the read the first one, so things are a bit fuzzy).

  5. Thank you god that i am not the only one that sees this! If you look i beet you can fide some really good werewolf books

  6. Ive read many vampire books but they just dont get me laughin unlike werewolf book cause they have good humour lol

  7. Oooh I was going to mention this book as a no-no! I bought it out of curiousity and I finished it cause I don’t like to leave books unread! It is a different idea to the whole change that we have been introduced to, and the romance was sweet, but not something that I wouldn’t really recommend :\ the story line doesn’t make sense and for some parts it kinda drags out :<

  8. I’ve always thought of being infected with lycanthropy as an infection that slowly takes over your body until you are nothing but the beast, which makes more sense from a scientific standpoint and more believable that lycanthropy can actually exist.

I was surprised when this book had the exact same idea I had. And I was pleasantly surprised, very well written. I love the sequel, Overworld, as well.
