Fireside Chats: Shuffling Showtimes

Thanks to our lovely little pandemic, movie theaters are closed. Some, like those owned by AMC, may never reopen. AMC had almost bankrupted itself before the quarantine, overextending itself by buying up other theater chains. I hope they make it through. If not, I hope some other chain takes over their locations. Anyway, theaters are closed and Hollywood is shut down. When, then, will we be able to see those movies we’ve been anxiously waiting for? It can be hard to keep up with it all. Hopefully this will help.

We won’t get to see the new GHOSTBUSTERS movie, or MORBIUS, until spring of next year. There is some good news, though, as A QUIET PLACE II will now be released on September 4th. The new CANDYMAN will open on September 25th. Spring’s loss is early autumn’s gain, it would seem. BLACK WIDOW will open on November 6th. No word yet on when we’ll get to see NEW MUTANTS, ANTEBELLUM, or the Guillermo del Toro-produced ANTLERS. WONDER WOMAN 1984 will still aim for a summer release on August 14th, and TENET is still on the books for a July release. We don’t know anything about SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW. TOP GUN: MAVERICK will open at Christmas. And JUNGLE CRUISE won’t open in theaters until July of 2021!

If, good Lord willing and the Creek (Nation, that is) don’t rise, theaters are able to open up again by summer, will there even be any new movies for us to go see?

By the way, if you want any updates about non-genre movies, I’m afraid you’ll have to look elsewhere. I don’t speak that language.
