Feeling BLOODTHIRSTY?

There’s a new werewolf movie out, BLOODTHIRSTY, that played at Cannes (virtually). Director Amelia Moses said of the film: “I’m looking for something more visceral, that slowly gets under your skin and for me, as a horror fan and an audience member, those are the films that I enjoy more.” And regarding the creature itself, she says the audience shouldn’t expect a CGI monster (hallelujah!); rather the trick will be achieved with prosthetics and make-up: “We have a hybrid, a mix of a human and a wolf. It’s a bit more grotesque, a bit weirder, and we still get the emotion of the main character, even when she’s a werewolf.”

So what’s this one about? What are the specifics? From the linked article: “Bloodthirsty stars Lauren Beatty as Grey, a young singer whose anti-psychotic drugs don’t put a stop to early dream sequences about being a wolf…As Grey’s emotionally-fraught musical collaboration deepens, the vegan singer starts to hallucinate she’s a wolf with a growing hunger for meat and the hunt. Soon [she is] convinced her psychotic visions are a gift and a gateway to an esteemed fraternity of monsters.”

“Hollywood likes a strong female lead,” said Moses. “I’m all for that. But I always want to see women who are vulnerable or a bit fucked up, who are struggling too, because that’s humanity…A lot of films focus on a premise. For me personally, everything comes as an extension of the main character and an exploration of that character.”
