‘Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland’ Finally Has a Release Date

Fables is a DC comic book series created by writer Bill Willingham and first published in 2002. The award-winning series follows a variety of characters from fairy tales and folklore – referring to themselves as “Fables” – who have been forced out of their Homelands by “The Adversary” who has conquered the realm. The Fables have traveled to our world and formed a secret community in New York City known as Fabletown. Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland, a spin-off graphic novel starring shapeshifter Bigby Wolf, has been in the making for quite some time now and at long last DC Comics has revealed the release date – September 5, 2012. Yeah, that’s a hell of a long wait for a comic, but it’s sure to be worth it.

Here are the details on Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland:

Written by Bill Willingham
Art by Jim Fern, Craig Hamilton and Ray Snyder
Cover by Daniel Dos Santos

“Bigby Wolf takes center stage in what might be the most action-packed FABLES story to date. Bigby embarks on a quest through the American Heartland to find a new location for Fabletown. In his wanderings, Bigby stumbles across a small town named Story City, that, amazingly enough, seems to be populated by werewolves. Who are they and where did they come from? They aren’t Fables, but they sure aren’t normal mundys. They seem to already know and revere Bigby, but at the same time they’ve captured and caged him – but why? Unravelling the many mysteries of Story City may cost Bigby more than his life.”

Here’s the fantastic cover:

The graphic novel will be 160 pages long and in color, it also has a mature rating.

I haven’t actually read the Fables comics, but the more I learn about them the more I want to check them out. The comic has grown considerably over the years and is so popular that a video game is in the making (by the AWESOME Telltale games). I definitely plan on picking up Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland when it comes out next year, the good thing about the wait is I have plenty of time to read all about Bigby Wolf.

Anyone else planning on picking up Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland?

  1. I’ve been following Fables, but this is the first time I’ve heard of this. I’d advise anyone to read Fables–it’s really interesting first the first few story arcs. (It kinda loses it’s uniqueness after a while though.)

For those who don’t know about Fables, here it is:
Fables is based on a fictional universe based on our own, where characters from fables, fairy tales and other such stories are real. They left their homeland to the “real” world, and try to coexist with the normal (mundy) people. Bigby Wolf (aka the Big B(ad) Wolf) is the kickass detective of the Fables community and is generally in charge of anything awesome. Examples:
    – Solves a murder mystery
    – Leads a rebellion
    – Completes a solo sabotage mission
    – Fought in WW2 against the Nazis
Bigby is just pure badassery, so this is definitely a must-buy.

  2. Definitely picking this up! Problem is I might not remember it by next year, will you make another post for it when it comes out so I’ll be reminded? lol
