At least, unlike with MORBIUS and GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, we’re still going to get to see A QUIET PLACE 2 this year. They just moved it from the spring until fall. That’s not too bad. But while we wait for it, we can rewatch the first film. And we can watch DON’T SPEAK.
From Uncork’d Entertainment, DON’T SPEAK sounds a tad familiar. “Upon arriving at their grandparents [sic] farm, a family soon realize the entire town has been taken out by an unknown monster. And soon, they become its prey.” And it sounds even more familiar when you become aware that the monster is blind and hunts purely by sound. Blatant rip-off? Nah. Not if it’s an obvious and proud rip-off. In that case, it’s an *homage*.
I haven’t seen this one yet. You can beat me to it, if you can livestream, which I can’t. The one review I could find for this one said that it was awful. Awfully wonderful, I bet! It looks like a complete hoot, a great B-movie creature feature cheeseburger. I also discovered, while googling the film for additional information, that it has been retitled SILENT PLACE. Which is even more of a blatant rip-off, but who cares? They’re celebrating it, remember?
Watch the trailer for DON’T SPEAK/SILENT PLACE here. The monster looks cool (and practical!) and the movie looks glorious.
