James Wan said of his mainstream smash AQUAMAN that the moments wherein he got to really embrace his Horror roots were those involving the creatures from down in “the Trench” attacking Aquaman and Mera. Those toothy, Lovecraftian beasts were the stuff of nightmares. Given the box office success of AQUAMAN and Wan’s enthusiasm, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise that Warner Brothers has now greenlit a movie dedicated to the Trench creatures. And yes, it should be an out-and-out Horror flick. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald have been hired to write the screenplay, with James Wan and Peter Safran producing. No word yet on who will direct it or when we might get to see the finished product in theaters.

Hopefully, whoever ends up in the director’s chair, the product will live up to its potential. And hopefully we’ll get some cool TRENCH action figures to go along with it, NOT ones you have to buy a piece at a time, coming packaged with other action figures, and then put them together, or else pay an inflated fee for one on eBay.
