Did a Dogman Kill A Kid In Kentucky?

I’m seeing lots said about this incident on the cryptid forums of ye trusty ol’ social media. Some are claiming it as proof not only of the existence of “Dogman”-type entities, but that said entities are out to eat us. This springs from the fact that there has, up to the point of this report, been confusion as regards the attack itself. Authorities have said only that the boy, 13-year-old Corey Joseph Godsey, was killed by a “canine”-type creature. This lack of a solid identification of the animal, as well as the fact that the boy’s body was dragged some ways uphill, has been fodder for many imaginations. The less imaginative have offered the more prosaic explanation of a pack of coyotes.

If I had to put money on it, I would bet against a Dogman. There are lots of reported incidents of people being scared by Dogmen during encounters, and sometimes of being chased by them, but you’d be hard-pressed to find any accounts of people being killed by one. (Unless all the victims were simply never found, we must allow.) I also doubt that a pack of coyotes did it. Coyotes, even in a pack, are skittish by nature. As bears and mountain lions have been ruled out, I’d bet on wild dogs. Wild dogs don’t have the instinctive fear of humans that coyotes have, and they’d have no problem working together to drag the body uphill.

In all the speculation over the cause of death, we don’t want to overlook the tragedy experienced by the victim’s family. We at this site offer our condolences to his friends and loved ones.
